2015 Oscar nominations: who got recognized & who got snubbed?
Here we go. The culmination of months of hand-shaking, shilling, interviewing, baby-kissing and pretending to care about the fans. Millions of dollars were spent. Was it all a waste? Perhaps. This morning, the Academy Award nominations were announced. And some of my dreams came true. Benedict Cumberbatch, Keira Knightley, Emma Stone and Julianne Moore all got nominated. Jennifer Aniston did NOT. Amy Adams did NOT. Angelina Jolie did NOT. Ava DuVernay did NOT. You can see the complete list here. Here are all the big categories:

So, big surprises? No Aniston and no Amy Adams and the inclusion of Marion Cotillard. That’s shocking, because NO MONEY went into Marion’s campaign and she only picked up a few critics’ awards. I know this makes me a horrible person, but I’m giddy with relief that Aniston didn’t get nominated. That makes me so, so happy. I’m also shocked to see Laura Dern included on the Supporting list! She hustled very hard for that but she was shut out of nearly every major award nomination before this.
What else… I’m surprised that Foxcatcher got some major noms, just because I thought the Oscar hype had gone way down in the past month. I’m happy that Selma was included on the Best Picture list, but I’m disappointed that the Academy missed their opportunity to nominate the first African-American woman director with Ava DuVernay. The Best Director list is all-dude. Sigh…
Unbroken got some technical nominations, but that won’t be enough to get Angelina Jolie at the Oscars though. Maybe she’ll sign on as a presenter?
