Amazon Studios Emergency Wraps Filming Celeb Secrets
Production continues as the industry begins its transition into the “post-COVID” future. Most recently, Amazon Studios wrapped filming on one of its newest projects – Emergency. Cast members Sabrina Carpenter and RJ Cyler use their teen fanbase to attract popularity to the movie.
Carpenter holds an extensive list of credits with Netflix and Disney. Recent projects include Netflix’s Work It and Clouds, which was released on Disney Plus in October. Cyler is most known for his work on the CW’s Black Lightning, Sierra Burgess Is a Loser on Netflix, and Sony’s White Boy Rick.
The film finds its roots in a 2017 short film of the same title. After winning prizes at both Sundance and South by Southwest Film Festivals, it began the process of adaptation. Amazon Studios and Temple Hill headed this project, and are in charge of bringing the comedy thriller to life.
Emergency follows a group of BIPOC college seniors, eager to celebrate with a night of partying and adventure. Sean (played by Cyler), Kunle, and Carlos are forced to pause their plans when they return to find an unconscious stranger on the floor of their apartment.
They hesitate to contact authorities, as Sean worries about the optics of their situation; He fears that having an unresponsive white girl on the floor will quickly paint them as guilty. Together, they work to take her elsewhere, in hopes that someone can help her.
In the meantime, Maddy (Carpenter) notices her sister has disappeared from the party. She tracks her sister’s phone in a drunken attempt to find her. A disorderly chase around town ensues; will everyone return to safety?
The month-long shoot was based in Atlanta, Georgia, and finished this last weekend. Audiences can look forward to screening Emergency later this year.
