DALLAS, TX (CelebrityAccess) — After a rare but last minute cancellation of a show in Dallas earlier this year, comedian Bill Maher is making good on his promise to make it up to his fans.

Maher missed the sold-out January 22nd show due to mechanical difficulties with the plane he had booked to fly to Dallas. At the time, Maher acknowledged the disappointment of the 3,400 fans who had turned out to see him perform and promised to make up the date while forgoing any of the proceeds from the show.

Now, as promised, Maher is lined up for a makeup date at Fair Park Music Hall on May 7th and has pledged to donate money from the show to four local charities. As well, Maher offered to provide a free barbecue dinner provided by a local caterer in a tent outside of the venue.

"I've just been flabbergasted by this," Danny Eaton, CEO of Live Nation's Dallas office told the Dallas News. "I've dealt with so many cancellations. Most people don't even care how the fans are affected, but he [Maher] has gone over the top on this deal."

The four charities that will be the recipients of Maher's largesse are:

  • Duck Team 6, an all-volunteer group who works to combat Dallas's stray dog epidemic.
  • Dallas Pets Alive! a charity that works to rescue animals from being euthanized in high-kill shelters and helps to get them fostered and adopted.
  • R.I.S.E. which helps soldiers who have sustained disabling injuries.
  • CitySquare which fights poverty in the Dallas region.
