Publish date: 2024-06-28

The final College Football Playoff rankings are out, and while there were no shockers in the Big Ten, there certainly was a shocker.

The Michigan Wolverines will take on the Alabama Crimson Tide in the College Football Playoff semifinals, while Washington play Texas. Michigan was one of two teams that knew its fate to a degree coming in, with the only question being whether it would be No. 1 or No. 2.

The Wolverines ended up at No. 1, while Washington was No. 2, and Florida State was left out at No. 5, while Georgia was No. 6. J.J. McCarthy and Michigan are looking to win a semifinal game for the first time, having lost the past two seasons. That will be a tall task against an Alabama team coming off a massive win against Georgia, but this will be the first time Michigan goes into the CFP as the No. 1 team in the country.

With a pivotal win over Ohio State and a dominant win from whistle to whistle against Iowa, Michigan has proved its mettle. It will have to do so again against one of the hottest teams in the country. After the Wolverines, Ohio State will head to Dallas to play Missouri in the Cotton Bowl, and Penn State has Ole Miss in the Peach Bowl.
