Em Beihold Shares How She Created Her Smash-Hit Numb Little Bug (Exclusive) Celeb Secrets
Like drawing the curtains to let natural light flood a dark room, singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Em Beihold sprinkles sunny melodies over sadness, sowing the seeds for pensive and powerful pop.
She was born and raised in Los Angeles and music called her attention at just six-years-old. She spent years in piano lessons, learning classical and jazz. She went to college, graduated but always gravitated towards music so she took a chance on herself and her musical career.
In 2020, she launched her TikTok page that would essentially help her career.
The chorus to her song, “City Of Angels,” went viral on the platform, translating to 5.6 million Spotify streams. She maintained this momentum in 2021 with “Groundhog Day.”
Not only did the initial teaser light up social media with 20 million views, but the song cracked the Spotify Viral 50 in the U.S. and The Philippines, surpassing 6.6 million Spotify streams. She then signed to a record label and dropped her debut sing “Numb Little Bug” in early 2022.
Celeb Secrets reporter Lupe LLerenas recently caught up with Beihold at iHeartRadio’s KIIS FM Wango Tango in Los Angeles. She talked about the making of smash-hit “Numb Little Bug,” how she balances her mental health and the new music she’s work on.
“I wrote [‘Numb Little Bug’] about that state where you are not happy but not sad,” she shared. “More people related to it than I expected to; it’s sad but also good to know that we’re all together.”
Em also shared details about latest EP, Egg in the Backseat, which is available beginning today (July 22) on all streaming platforms. She says she’s been sitting on these new songs for about a year now.
“They finally get to see the light of day and are no longer trapped in Sméagol’s cave,” she says. “These tracks really feel like the truest representation of me yet and I can’t wait for you all to hear them.”
Additionally, explained how writing music brings eases her mind. “When I write, it’s just kind of it’s always been a therapeutic process for me and the fact that I can share that with the world I think you know it makes us realize its community,” she said.
To celebrate the release, Em just completed a series of sold-out international shows in Berlin, London and Amsterdam, culminating with a special sold-out show in LA earlier this week. Up next, she will join King Princess for a string of dates on her fall tour, which you can learn more about by visiting her website.
