Heres Why Were Obsessing Over Newcomer Kelsey Waters Celeb Secrets

Publish date: 2024-06-06

Everywhere you go in Nashville, you find singers and songwriters dreaming of it big in the music industry. One of those dreamers is Kelsey Waters, but the difference with her is that she has the potential to be Music City’s next big thing.

Growing up in a musically and artistically-inclined family, the Florida native taught herself how to play guitar at thirteen, when she also started writing her own songs. Later she attended Florida State University for design while performing in bars and clubs up to five nights a week. Deciding that singing, recording and songwriting was her passion, she left school to focus on music full-time. Inspired by the underground rock scene and artists such as Paramore, Kings of Leon, along with Jack White’s label, Kelsey decided to move to Nashville in 2013 to really hone her craft of songwriting.

Within the first year after her move, Kelsey landed a publishing deal and started writing full-time. She soon signed with William Morris Entertainment, booking shows and going on the road with artists such as The Band Perry, Indigo Girls, Kiefer Sutherland, Wynonna, LeAnn Rimes and Pat Benatar, among others.

Last year, Waters released her EP Cool Cars and it’s definitely worth a listen. Her voice is truly one-of-a-kind — mixing soul with a bit of southern rock — for a sound that we absolutely can’t get enough of.

Listen to her killer vocals below in her new single “One More Habit”:

Kelsey’s sound took awhile to find, but we’re SO happy she finally did. It really shows how much she’s capable of and gave us something new to obsess over!

“I waited until I was 26 to allow myself to have my own voice as an artist,” Kelsey admits, “and that’s what this [One More Habit] is all about. I turned inward for the writing inspiration, which was a new concept, and allowed myself to open up about addiction, heartbreak, and sexual desire.” Adding, “This is around the time a good friend of mine, Mark Selby, took an acoustic guitar out of my hands during a co-write and swapped it for an electric…I became hooked, and that only further inspired the sound of this new project.”
