Mns Zelmerlw & Mel Giedroyc Confirmed As Hosts Of UK's Eurovision: You Decide

Publish date: 2024-06-10

Today, UK broadcaster, BBC, has announced the details of the UK’s national selection show. The hosts of the Eurovision: You Decide will be Mel Giedroyc and Måns Zelmerlöw. It will be hosted in Brighton at the Brighton Dome on 7 February 2017. Tickets are available right now.

This is the iconic venue where ABBA won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1974, with their song “Waterloo”. Would this possibly help the UK find a winning song? Time will tell.

Mel Giedroyc has certainly cemented herself amongst Eurovision hosting, having co-hosted the semi-final shows alongside Scott Mills, for the UK, over the past three years; we presume she’ll return for 2018, too.

As for Måns Zelmerlöw, he’s the Swedish winner of the Eurovision Song Contest 2015, where he won, with his song “Heroes”. He has gone on to release more music, an album titled “Chameleon”, and he even spent some time to invite us to his London gig, where we also interviewed him, earlier this year; just before the Eurovision Song Contest 2017. He also presented the 2016 contest alongside Petra Mede.

We’ll Never Forget Their “Peace Peace Love Love” Eurovision 2016 Duet:

“I’m really, really looking forward to hosting Eurovision: You Decide together with Mel this year,” said Måns Zelmerlöw. “I’m sure we’ll have a great show and I would love to see the UK achieve a great result in Eurovision 2018. I can’t wait to be part of the You Decide journey and make both You Decide as well as the Eurovision Finals, a part of every UK home.”

Mel Giedroyc said: “My favourite time of year has come round again! I can’t wait to hear the songs and meet the artists.  And what a thrill to host proceedings with THE hero of my time – the Måns Zelmerlöw all live from the Brighton Dome. It will be a night to remember!”

Guy Freeman, Editor, Special Events and Formats, BBC Studios said: “We are so happy to be able to bring the show to such an iconic Eurovision venue. It will be the perfect home for what is shaping up to be a very exciting contest.”

Here’s The Promo Video For Eurovision: You Decide

So, remember the date, 7 February 2018, at Brighton Dome. If the rumours are anything to go by, it is set to be quite a competitive Eurovision: You Decide show. However, it also seems Eurovision 2018 is shaping up to be one of the most competitive contests of recent years. Four countries have already announced their acts, we’re just waiting for the songs to be revealed.

So far, we have Saara Aalto representing Finland, AISEL representing Azerbaijan, Waylon representing The Netherlands, and Laura Groeseneken representing Belgium. A total of 42 countries will participate, with Russia returning after a one-year break, and FYR Macedonia withdrawing due to unpaid debts.

The Eurovision Song Contest 2018 will be hosted in Lisbon at the Altice Arena after Portugal won in 2017 with Salvador Sobral, who sang “Amar pelos dois”. The Semi-Finals will take place on 8 May and 10 May; with the Grand Final taking place on 12 May 2018. This year’s theme for the contest is “All Aboard”.
